Important

Embassy telephone numbers, opening hours, appointment requirements, and passport procedures can change.

Always check the official embassy or government website before visiting, especially if you need an emergency passport or travel document.

If your passport was stolen rather than simply lost, tell both the Japanese police and your embassy when reporting the incident.

LOCAL TIP

Take a photo or secure digital copy of the photo page of your passport before traveling to Japan. Keep it somewhere separate from your passport, such as secure cloud storage.

It is also a good idea to keep a record of your travel insurance details and emergency contact information. Having these available can make the process much easier if your passport, wallet, or luggage goes missing during your trip.
